About

What BroadScout publishes.

BroadScout turns two official US broadband datasets into pages a person can read. It publishes what the sources actually say, names the limits of each figure, and does not fill the gaps with estimates of its own.

Two different questions

The site keeps two measures apart, because they answer different questions and are produced by different agencies from different methods.

Availability

Which providers report offering service in a place, with the technologies and the advertised speed pairs in their filings to the FCC. This is what providers say they can sell, not a record of what is installed at a given address.

Adoption

How many households in a place told the Census Bureau they have an internet subscription. This is what households buy, and it names no provider at all.

Browse adoption

The two are never merged, and neither is derived from the other. Where a place has both, each page links to the other and says which measure it is showing.

What this site does not claim

Independence

BroadScout is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by the Federal Communications Commission, the United States Census Bureau, or any internet service provider. It does not sell internet service and takes no orders. The underlying data is produced by those agencies; the selection, presentation and the stated limits are this site's own.
